Eminem

Eminem – Marshall Mathers

Marshall Bruce Mathers is known by two stage names more than his actual name which is: Eminem and slim shady, Marshall was born on the 17th October 1972 and was raised in St  Joseph Missouri United States and moved to Detroit Michigan United States. When Eminem was younger he didn’t know what hip hop was until his uncle Ronnie introduced it to him at the age of 14 but before he started going into the music industry, he seen himself as a bit of a story tell and wanted to be came a comic book writer. Since Eminem has been out he has had 8 albums released and 14 films, the film most people would recognise is 8 mile which is based on his starting out career.

When Eminem was starting out not a lot of other rappers liked what he was rapping about which coursed a lot of rap battles most of the rappers in hip hop are from a different race and didn’t see that white people could rap as well as them, there is song that says what happened to Eminem when all of it kicked off when one of the rappers was saying stuff about Eminem‘s daughter and that Eminem stabbed him when he didn’t. Eminem was addicted to prescription pills which lead him to go to rehab because he was so depend on them, through being on the drugs he became suicidal "I just wasn't taking care of myself, at times I wanted to just give it up."

The song is called ‘like toy soldiers ‘https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lexLAjh8fPA

I think Eminem is a really good artist as through-out his songs he raps about how he would like to change his life for the better and wished he never got hooked on the prescription drugs because all he wanted was a better life for his two daughters which is described in songs such as “mocking bird”, “when im gone” all these two songs are about his him wanting to change his life around and wishing his children had a better life than he did growing up.

In the hip-hop world most artist rap about money, drugs, sex but what makes Eminem so different is that he raps about his life and what happened and how it made him feel, how he wants to change it if he could. Eminem raps about his life as a way to show he is his own person and he does follow other rappers. When he first started out there was only one person who believed in him was his mentor Dr Dre and the more Eminem started rapping the more  Nas and Jay-Z didn’t like it and started saying stiff about Eminem and his family which started a battle against to hip-hop gangs which led to a murder. Naz and Jay-Z though it would be clever to start a battle war against Eminem and rap about his family then once they finished 50cent though well if they could do it then I could and carried it on, but once the violence kicked in after the whole rapping ‘about Haile’s name in a song’ Eminem just lost it because in hip-hop you never mention anyone’s family otherwise its classed as personal, in the end 50 started rapping about stopping the battle before someone got hurt which turned out to be one of Eminem’s and Dr Dre’s gang members by getting shot and that’s when Eminem said enough is enough.

Interview on Eminem

I think these questions have backed up my point from above that Eminem does want to change his life and if he could he would for the better as he was on drugs before and now is clean and has been for ages.

Does Slim Shady, your raping and killing alter ego, still exist? Or have you split with him?

Shady still exists. But I don’t think the subjects on this record call for, you know, bring the chainsaws and axes out and murder everyone on this record. There was so much stuff like that off the last record that I felt like I was starting to run it into the ground. I think consciously I went in a different direction with this record.

Do you regret having written so many songs that refer to women as “bitches” and “hos” who exist solely for your pleasure?

Anything I’ve ever said, I certainly was feeling at the time. But I think I’ve calmed down a bit. My overall look on things is a lot more mature than it used to be.

How do you stay sober?

My kids, and also I see a rehab counsellor once a week. I’ve been clean for two years.

‘But the overdose scared him. Early last year he hospitalized himself, went through rehab and started the full 12-step program of a recovering addict, complete with meetings, a sponsor and a therapist. Mr Mather’s, 36, says he has stayed sober since April 20, 2008.’ This is another example of my opinion of why he is a good artist because it’s proving that he would want to change his life and what he sings is true.

Looking back at what I have wrote and what I have read Eminem is extremely different compared to other rappers he says how his life really is like now and back to him growing up. The other reason why he is different from other rappers is that he raps about his life and not money and girls in a non respected way.
